What Caleta is, and what it isn't.

Caleta is a native sailing logbook for iPhone, made for private cruising sailors. It brings three things into one place: preparing your trip, recording and reviewing every passage, and keeping order aboard with maintenance, deadlines and gear. Where the chart leaves off, Caleta begins.

Caleta is for anyone who runs their own boat and wants order in life aboard: cruising and long-distance sailors, family cruisers, and keen club and racing sailors. Whether it's a relaxed holiday cruise or a Wednesday-night race, you plan your trips, keep your logbook, keep your boat in order, and review every outing, right down to your races.

No. Caleta does not navigate and does not replace a chartplotter. The map is there for planning and for visualising your route; the course and the responsibility stay with you. Caleta is the logbook and the order aboard, not the navigation device.

Navigation apps get you across the water and stop where life aboard begins. Caleta takes care of exactly that: provisions and crew, checklists before you cast off, recording the trip with photos, the review afterwards, and the boat's maintenance across the whole season.

Yes. Trip preparation includes a weather forecast so you can plan your trip around wind and weather. The data comes from the open weather service Open-Meteo. The weather is there for planning, not for navigation.

Caleta deliberately relies on open data. The base map is built on OpenStreetMap, the nautical layer comes from OpenSeaMap, rendered with the open-source engine MapLibre, and the weather is provided by Open-Meteo. That keeps the app independent of the big providers and light on data.

Yes. Trip preparation brings route and distance, weather, crew, checklists and provisioning into one place. The built-in harbour catalogue currently covers the North Sea and Baltic Sea; expansion to further areas is planned. So you cast off well prepared and forget nothing important.

Full trip planning with harbours is currently set up for the North Sea and Baltic Sea, because a dedicated, built-in harbour catalogue is in place there. Logbook, review and on-board organisation work everywhere, independently of that. We extend the areas continuously; the Mediterranean and the Atlantic coast are next.

Yes. Caleta records your trips and races as a track with segments, with photos in the moment and without later copying from a paper logbook. Afterwards it works out how much you ran under engine and how much you sailed, and with which figures.

Yes. Caleta manages maintenance intervals, engine hours, inventory and spare parts, and safety equipment with its deadlines. So you know when the fire extinguisher is due, and you keep track of the winter jobs you noticed in summer.

Yes. Upcoming work and information can be shared with the crew, so routines become reliable and everyone knows what's due.

Yes. Caleta works offline, so it also works where there is no signal, at sea and in harbour. You can export your data at any time.

Caleta is an iOS-only product, a native app for iPhone. It is currently intended for iOS only; there is no Android version. An Apple Watch version is planned (see Outlook).

Caleta comes in German and English. Further languages are planned.

Yes. Because your boats and trips are tied to your account, you sign in by email, with Apple or with Google. You can delete your account again in the app at any time.

Caleta is free to start with. How things develop later we're keeping deliberately open, perhaps through individual add-on features, perhaps in another way. What we can promise you: no nasty surprises, and no subscription you can't get out of. If anything changes, we'll say so clearly and in good time.

Your logbook and boat data are stored on servers in the EU (data centre in Ireland) and fall under GDPR. Caleta is run by a German company, carries no ads and does not track you: no tracking, no sharing for advertising.

Yes. You can export what you record at any time, and delete your account and all its data whenever you want. Your data is yours.

Caleta is being built by sailors for the boating community, for cruising sailors and motorboaters alike. It grows out of real life aboard and out of the community, which is exactly why developing it together with its users is at the heart of the idea.

Yes. We're working on an Apple Watch app that brings your checklists and the live view of the current trip to your wrist.

Today you can share work and information with your crew. The plan is to involve the crew more closely, in trip preparation and route planning, so everyone aboard plans together. Further community features are in the works.

Yes, races can be recorded as a track with segments and compared. Sailing against each other within the community is an outlook and not yet part of the product.

Not today. In time, app and boat are meant to grow together, so the logbook records speed, wind, heel and tank levels itself. That's a later development, not a feature we have today.
